History of George W. Truett

Truett

 

Our school is named for George Washington Truett, a prominent Dallas minister and writer. Mr. Truett was born on May 6, 1867, in Hayesville, North Carolina.  Following his family to Texas, a young Mr.Truett completed his AB degree at Baylor University in 1897 and became the minister of First Baptist Dallas, a post which he maintained until his death in 1944.  He is remembered as a profound orator and servant leader whose influence reached across Dallas and beyond.
